MeToo Accused Jian Ghomeshi

Jian Ghomeshi is a Canadian entertainer, from 1990 to 2000, he was a vocalist and drummer in the folk-pop band Moxy Früvous.

In the 2000s, Jian became a television and radio broadcaster. He hosted, among others, the CBC Newsworld TV show >play (2002–2005), the CBC Radio One radio show The National Playlist (2005–2006), and the CBC Radio One show Q, which he co-created and hosted from 2007 to 2014, until he was fired by CBC.

He was fired for accusations that he “punched her in the head multiple times” in one case and sexually assaulting multiple women. Jian Ghomeshi pleaded not guilty to the charges and his trial began in early 2016.

What Jian Ghomeshi Did? by McCleans has a good summary of the events.

In March 2016, Ghomeshi was found not guilty. Mainly because it appeared all the women accusing him had colluded to bring him down. It appeared coordinated. I think the verdict was a clear warning.

  • By November 2014, more than 20 women alleged Ghomeshi had assaulted or harassed them.
  • The allegations were historical, dating back more than a decade to 2002 and 2003.
  • The accused was known to, even at some point desired by, the complainants.
  • The first was actress of “Trailer Park Boys” and also Royal Canadian Air Force captain Lucy DeCoutere.
  • The second, lawyer and writer Reva Seth, who dated Ghomeshi briefly in 2002, wrote in the Huffington Post in 2014 that Ghomeshi suddenly “became a different person” during their encounter.
  • The third, a woman, who was 41 at the time and cannot be named, met Ghomeshi at a party.
  • Each of the 3 had a brief relationship with Ghomeshi that ended badly.
  • Most sexual assault complainants don’t engage in multiple media interviews, DeCoutere had done 19 interviews, readily available to be filleted by the defence for inconsistencies, contradictions and omissions.

Their use of the media was their downfall.

Colluding

Matthew Good hates me doing these comparisons but I have to compare. Even thought the Jian Gomeshi case was pre-MeToo it was a big case in Canada. The women lost because it seemed to the court, the women had colluded together to take down Ghomeshi.

In Matthew Good’s situation, I believe the women that formed the Facebook group ruined any of their claims byt creating that group, and talking together.

Most of the women that complained about Matthew Good told stories where they felt lied to – made to believe they were special, or told that they were “the only one” because he told them he never cheats or hooks up with random fans. When in reality Matthew was always doing that, always cheating on his significant others.

Collusion! Which is what Matthew Good could certainly argue in regard to the Regretful Groupies. They have 3 known groups in which they privately share their “experiences” and details, and planned their attacks on Matthew Good’s livelihood, taking down his reputation.

Even if, all these women had had a legal case against the rock star, it would be very hard to prove they were not coached or colluding with the other group of women in those social media chat rooms and Facebook groups.

Online Accusations

The real question is – if any of the worst accusations have any validity.

A Redditor claiming to be someone in close connection to Matthew Good’s career, has accused Matthew of denying a female singer the opportunity to sing on his album because she would not sexually service him. No one has publicly come forward with that claim. If this was a legit accusation and Matthew Good really demanded sex in return for a job, that is harassment and illegal.

Then there is the alleged 17 year old that claimed he gave her an STD. Seventeen is troublesome territory – even with Canada’s age of consent at 16 – the problem stems from the authoritarian position of power he holds as a “famous” musician in society. However the individual that made this claim online, has not come forward with any reports to the police.

Hayley, his ex-girlfriend claimed that Matthew Good was running a sex trafficking ring of underaged girls using the CMHA as a method of finding vulnerable teens. Yet, not one has come forward in regard to this claim. It remains completely unproven.

A woman named Phaedra claimed in a publicly shared IG post, that Matthew “forced” anal sex on her, yet she is unwilling to report the details, she tried to charge another man, in her past of sexual assault and lost.

I personally know Phaedra. We met in 2009 and had tea together on Main Street. She was friends with Keira, Matthew’s public sorta girl ‘friend’ around that time. At that tea time, Phaedra asked me for Matthew’s sexual preferences.

I followed Phaedra’s social media for all the years after, and was well aware of her history. We spoke about the claims, and she believes her accusation would be regarded with scepticism due to her lifestyle and history.

Someone on Twitter anonymously claimed Matthew raped her. But no one publicly came forward, or if they reported it to police, nothing came of it.

These are some serious accusations! Yet none are seeing a court room.

So all that is left is social media.
